“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.  Because what the world needs is people who have come alive!”

– Howard Thurman

If you are reading this, you are alive!

But what are you doing to feel really ALIVE!

Over the years I have had many experiences that I can remember where I have felt ALIVE!

Here are a couple that stand out to me:

It was July, 2011. We were at the beach, in Florida, and we rented a Stand up Paddleboard. I had never been on one before, and in fact had never even heard of such a thing.  I pushed off from the beach and hopped on the board and then tried to stand up once I got past the breakers. I couldn’t.  So I knelt.  I am not sure if I ever stood up that day, but I fell in love with how free  and “athletic” I felt.  Something about being on that board and trying to conquer the pitch of the waves made me feel alive.  We rented one the rest of the week, and eventually purchased our own.

Another occurred recently, on Sunday, September 15, 2019 as a matter of fact. My husband and I had a free weekend morning, so we took off for a 3 or 4 mile hike in the Jefferson Memorial Forest…which turned into a 5 or 6 mile hike…which turned into a 7.5 mile hike with some trail running because we felt so good. As we were running a stretch of trail, I had a calm come over me. I told myself, “I feel ALIVE”.

There has been a lot of grief happening in my life in the last few months. Some days I feel like I am just going through the motions and not really living life.

But in that one instance on the trail, I truly felt alive, and thanks to that one instance, I know that I will overcome the grief.

Where have you felt ALIVE at recently? What can you do in your life to keep that feeling most days of the week.
